Dreams Made Here: Meet Sophie

Made Here is maker central. We’re so happy to share all the best products by local makers to support the incredible dream makers over at The Dream Factory

Today, we want to introduce you to one very special maker: 10-year-old Sophie. She’s a bright, endlessly creative kid who loves to paint and aspires to build her own robot one day!

Last June, Sophie began to notice a pain in her right knee. On August 2nd, the final diagnosis was in: Osteosarcoma, or bone cancer.

Sophie started a rigorous chemotherapy schedule the following week and underwent a major surgery last November to remove the tumour in her knee. The operation involved moving her ankle up in place of her knee and rotating her foot 180 degrees. This meant Sophie would have to learn to walk again.

Sophie has faced every challenge with incredible patience and strength.

“Complaining never helps to fix anything,” Sophie says, “so I won’t complain.”

Unfortunately, Sophie’s cancer has progressed.

Her latest CT scans revealed that the malignant and aggressive cancer has spread to her lungs. Nobody knows how much time Sophie has left.

Sophie's Dream

The Dream Factory needs your help to make Sophie’s dream come true and to create a memory that her family will remember forever. Sophie dreams of leaving behind the uncomfortable procedures and the ever-beeping hospital machines to go on a nature adventure with her family. She’d love to hit the open road in an RV and go camping in the beautiful forests of British Columbia.

Due to recent travel restrictions and Sophie’s increased vulnerability, The Dream Factory has had to find a way to bring Sophie’s nature exploration to her.

Sophie’s medicines have made her sensitive to the sun and her backyard has little shade. By donating to The Dream Factory, you can help construct a backyard oasis for Sophie to enjoy with her family.

Let’s make this maker’s dream come true.

Sophie dreams of leaving behind the uncomfortable procedures and the ever-beeping hospital machines to go on a nature adventure with her family. She’d love to hit the open road in an RV and go camping in the beautiful forests of British Columbia.
